4 tourist attractions you must visit in Busan

1. Haeundae Beach

Haeundae Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Korea, not only in Busan. In every summer, hundreds of thousands people gather on this beach to enjoy their vacations because the depth of water is low and the quality of its sand is absolutely excellent.

It is said that Haeundae Beach is one of the symbols of Busan. Thus, a lot of people visit here all the year round. There are much accommodation, like hotels and gust houses, and additional facilities, such as restaurants and cafes around the beach.

In addition, various festivals, like the Viewing the Moon Festival and the Busan Sea Festival, are held. In particular, a large number of movie fans come to this beach during the Busan International Film Festival, which is the biggest film festival in Asia.

2. Nurimaru APEC House

This building was built to be used for the venue of the 13th APEC summit from 18th to 19th November in 2005.

The entire building structure expressed the Korean traditional architecture well while the roof embodied the ridge of Dongbaek islets. During the APEC summit, domestic and foreign media press admired that Nurimaru APEC House has the most beautiful landscape out of all the venues of the APEC summit ever.

Since the APEC summit, it has been used for business meetings for CEO and executives.

3. Youngdusan Park

Youngdusan Park is located in Mt. Youngdu. The mountain is in the city center and very well-known in Busan. The reason that the mountain is called the name is that its terrain looks like a dragon. Actually, Youngdu means a head of a dragon.

The groundbreaking ceremony is in November in 1915 and the construction finished in the year after.

The important thing is that the Busan Tower is located in this park as a representative building. As long as people climb the top of the tower, they can see the whole sceneries of Busan.  In particular, The landscapes of the Busan port and the night view are breathtakingly gorgeous.

4. Busan Film Street

Usually, Busan is said to be a city of a film since the Busan International Film Festival is held in the city year by year. Like I said, while the film festival is being held, a lot of people gather in this city, include movie stars and directors at home and abroad, as well as movie fans.

In this regard, Busan Film Street in Nampo-dong is a hot place during the film festival as there are a wide variety of film events, like hand print events and outdoor stage greeting ceremonies. So, if you visit the place while traveling in Busan, you will be able to learn the history of the Busan International Film Festival from scratch.

And also, Jagalchi Fish Market is right on the opposite side.

[Offshore News] SHI constructs a large-scale offshore wind farm in Jeju

Samsung Heavy Industries, a Korean shipbuilding company, is going to build a large-scale offshore wind farm in Jeju island with Korea Southern Power Corporation (KOSPO), which is a state-run company.

The shipbuilding company formerly announced that it obtained an order from its special purpose company (SPC) to build 12 units of 7-megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbines.

Earlier in September, SHI has a partnership with the KOSPO and established an special purpose company (SPC), namely, Daejeong Offshore Wind Power.

According to SHI, they have plans to finish the construction by the end of 2014 and start commercial operation from 2015.

During the contract, they will be responsible for the entire process including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, as well as test operation of wind turbines and wind turbine foundations.

In the meantime, as advanced economies have been striving to enlarge the use of new renewable energy sources, the wind power market has an enormous potential in growth.

The European market for offshore wind power generation, especially, is projected to more than double from $13.5 billion (3.3 gigawatt, or 3.3 GW) in 2012 to $30 billion (7.3 GW) in 2020.

With the aim of tapping the rapidly growing European market, the ship manufacturer decided to install a 7 MW wind power turbine for test operation in Scotland in January this year and isigned a contract to establish the power grid system in the region to sell electricity produced from the wind farm. Afterwards, SHI built an engineering center in Hamburg, Germany in July to facilitate development of new technologies.

History

Chung Ju-young, who is the founder of Hyundai Group, decided to enter into the shipbuilding industry in the early 1970s ignoring that Hyundai had no experience, capital and shipbuilding technology whatsoever. However, the company received orders for two 260,000-dwt crude oil tankers from Greek magnate George Livanos while Hyundai’s shipyard was still in the planning stage.

March in 1972, ground was broken on an empty stretch of beach in Ulsan to construct what would become the world’s largest shipyard. Then, the company started building the two oil tankers and the shipyard at the same time. Two years later, in 1972, Hyundai held a ceremony to name the two tankers while dedicating the shipyard.

Capturing the imagination of the international maritime community, the event was a historical first step for Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Then, now, the company became the largest shipbuilding manufacturer in the global market with the high technology they accumulated.
